Why We Need Vitamin Supplements

While it’s possible to get the nutrients the body needs from food, more so vegetables and fruits, the truth is that most people do not.

Failure to consume enough vegetables and fruits means that the body ends up missing out on essential nutrients. These are nutrients that can lower your risk for health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, among many other conditions. According to data provided by the CDC, the average adult ought to consume between 1.5 to 2 cups of fruits and between 2 to 3 vegetable cups each day.

But despite making this information public, a recent survey conducted by the CDC found out that 87 percent of adults do not consume enough veggies while 76 percent do not eat enough fruits. Taking this survey into consideration, how can an adult get enough nutrients? They can do so by ingesting a multivitamin.  The supplement serves as an insurance policy guaranteeing that the body will get all the minerals and vitamins that it requires. It assists in making up for the shortfalls that occur when the body doesn’t get what it needs through food.

Why Take Supplements?

1. Healthy Aging

As your body continues to age, its nutritional needs continue to rise. It also becomes harder for it to absorb these nutrients. Scientists have also proven that medications have the potential to deplete the body of nutrients it had already absorbed. Taking a supplement will, therefore, help the body to offset any deficiencies that may arise.

2. Good for Your Heart

Research has shown that ingesting high-quality supplements can reduce the risks of contracting cardiovascular diseases. Did you know that heart disease is currently the leading cause of death among both genders in the United States? Magnesium, CoQ10, Niacin, and vitamins B1, B2, B6, and K1 all have an important role to play when it comes to reinforcing your cardiovascular health.

3. Reduces Cancer Risk

Using supplements have been associated with a reduced risk of developing certain cancers. According to data from a study of 14,000 men, all aged 50 years and above, it was established that using supplements on a daily basis greatly helped to reduce their chances of developing cancer.

4. Boosts Immunity

Vitamin C acts as a strong antioxidant that is widely believed to play an important role in enhancing the immune system. Vitamins D & E also assists in boosting immunity while at the same time playing an important role in soothing the symptoms associated with different allergies.

5. Feel Better

Vitamin supplements containing the B family are known to enhance energy levels, decrease anxiety and stress, and enhance a feeling of wellbeing. These are some of the factors that make it worthwhile for you to consider sticking to a single supplement routine.

Given that the body is unique, it only makes sense that the supplements you are taking be unique as well. There is a need to consider taking a more personalized approach to supplements by only taking those that are natural, allergen-free, and highly bioavailable.
